WE ARE A MISSIONARY PEOPLE BECAUSE WE SERVE A MISSIONARY GOD. THE GREAT COMMISSION IS CENTRAL TO WHO WE ARE AT REDEEMER.

We have received salvation because Jesus Christ stepped off his throne, took on flesh, and went to the ‘far country’ of this world to proclaim good news. The Great Commission is the invitation to be like Jesus, to participate in his victory, and share in God’s heart for the world.

“IF OUR CHURCH CLOSED ITS DOORS TOMORROW, WOULD ANYONE EVEN NOTICE?”

In 2011, our leadership began to ask this very question. A new desire began to grow and a new vision emerged to fully engage the Great Commission and invest in global missions.

We didn’t know where, but we prayed that God would reveal his glory among us. Then we were invited to the slums of Kolkata and the deep forest of Rajah. Now, we invite you to come and see.

OUR VISION

Invest in a people and place

We don’t want to be spread so thin that our resources don’t have an impact. We want to invest in a people and build relationships over a long period of time.

Sacrificially commit to their good

We endeavor to show the gospel of Christ in word and deed. Jesus came to sacrifice and serve and we want to express his love through sacrificial generosity.

Impact generations to come

We want to begin a work that impacts not just their children, but our children. We want our children to participate and develop a sense of God’s global mission as they grow.

Behold the glory of God

We want to see God move in mighty and powerful ways to bring about his kingdom. We want our prayers to be bold and trust that he has done great things and will do great things.

MISSIONS IS AN INVITATION TO SHARE IN GOD’S HEART FOR THE WORLD. FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD AND OFFERED CHRIST — WE ARE CALLED TO DO THE SAME.

From the very beginning God’s redemptive purposes were global and cosmic. God promised Abraham that through him he would bless all the peoples of the earth. In Isaiah, God called Israel to be a Light to the Nations that he might reconcile the world to himself. Missions reminds us that we don’t exist for ourselves, nor are we called to turn away from the world, but to work towards the life of the world in Jesus Christ.

WE SHARE IN THE FATHER’S JOY.

God’s love is fully expressed by God the Father offering the world what was most precious to him, his Son (Jn 3:16). He did not withhold him but freely offered him to the world so that the world may know full reconciliation through him. In the Great Commission, when Jesus calls us to take him to the ends of the earth, we are sharing in the Father’s joy of offering Jesus to the world. In this we are changed, not simply the world around us. We learn to love those who are distant from us and those we don’t understand. The Spirit meets us in mission and changes us by changing our hearts to love what God loves.

WE PARTICIPATE IN CHRIST’S MINISTRY.

Jesus shows us the missionary heart of God when he left his home in heaven by stepping off his throne, taking on flesh, and becoming a servant (Phil 2:7). God’s love did not remain distant, but Christ took on flesh and entered into the suffering and sorrow of this world, he called out injustice and oppression, and proclaimed Life for all peoples. As followers of Jesus the Spirit empowers us to continue Christ’s ministry of reconciliation and enter into a world that lives in darkness. In the Great Commission, Jesus calls us to join him and we must answer his call to minister the gospel in word and deed.

WE DO IT TOGETHER.

Missions is not simply for those who feel called to it, rather the entire church is called to missions. Whether someone is a goer, or a sender, or a pray-er, or a giver, missions is the work of the corporate church to embrace as a unified body. We are a missionary people because we serve a Missionary God.
